Britian's 14th & 15th American Colony, Florida in the 18th Century.

Although a short period history of only 20 years the impact the British rule in Florida was profound. It left its mark on history as the 14th and 15th colony of the British empire in the New World.

Britain acquired Florida peacefully under the Treaty of Paris after the French and Indian War. This was an exchange with Spain for its holding the city Havanna Cuba which the British had captured two years earlier.  The official transfer of St. Augustine to Britain in 1764 is reenacted during the Grand Illumination held every year on Dec 4th and 5th.
